As promised, we’re announcing another big headliner for the New Orleans Earth Day Festival & Green Business Expo – Amanda Shaw!
She’s the petite performer with a big voice and bigger stage presence who has been wowing audiences and playing to the tune of her own fiddle since she was 8 years old. The 19-year-old New Orleans native started out as a classically trained violinist and the youngest soloist with the Baton Rouge Symphony. She’s had roles in two Disney movies and was famously considered for the lead in the Hannah Montana series. But her heart was in the music of Louisiana (Cajun, Zydeco, Blues and more) she grew up loving, and Shaw instead chose to sign with Irvin Mayfield’s roots music label Poorman Mayfield. She has toured nationally and internationally – perfecting her craft to become one of the leading Cajun fiddlers today – has spoken out about wetland loss and her love of Louisiana in the 2006 documentary Hurricane on the Bayou, and was recognized as an Emerging Cultural Leader by the State of Louisiana in 2009.
Her fourth and most recent album, Good Southern Girl, shows Shaw expanding her repertoire of influences while celebrating the musical traditions of her home state.
Amanda Shaw will be joining Cyril Neville and more onstage Sunday, April 17, at Bayou St. John!
