The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is excited to announce the headliner for this year’s New Orleans Earth Day Festival & Green Business Expo: Cyril Neville!
This New Orleans legend has had a vibrant career making music and singing professionally since 1967. He’s known across the world as part of the Grammy winning Neville Brothers group (he’s the youngest of the Neville brothers) and his band the Meters joined the Rolling Stones on tour in the ’70s. As a solo musician, he’s released several albums — most recently 2009’s “Brand New Blues” — and guested on albums by Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, Dr. John and Willie Nelson. He’s known for being an outspoken human rights activist and for starting New Orleans Musicians Organized, which helps struggling musicians with business advice. Currently, Neville is dividing his time touring locally and nationally with Galactic and Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars.
Below is a video of Neville performing with the New Orleans Social Club on Austin City Limits in 2006, singing the Curtis Mayfield protest anthem “This is My Country.”
Cyril Neville and his band Tribe 13 will take the stage for the New Orleans Earth Day Festival on Sunday, April 17 at Bayou St. John.
We can’t wait to see him perform, and we’ve got more announcements to come, including the names of some of the other great performers we have lined up for the festival. So check back at nolaearthdayfest.org soon!
